"GREEN" MADISON CO. - Climate Smart Certification

Can't beat Zecca's Solid Waste Dept...always innovative...

Canastota, N.Y. >> There are 62 counties in New York, but only two of those counties has been honored by the New York State Department of Conservation as a Certified Climate Smart Community prior to December, 2016.

Buoyed by the efforts and plethora of new initiatives underway at the landfill, Madison County became the third county in the state to earn climate smart certification and just the 10th municipality across the state to earn such honors.

On Friday, members of the DEC and Miss Earth USA Corrin Stellakis, a Chittenango native, joined Madison County Department of Solid Waste Sanitation Director Jim Zecca and his staff at the landfill to commemorate the climate smart certification which recognizes the county for its many actions taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve climate resilience.

To achieve the certification, the county planning department led by Scott Ingmire, worked cooperatively with other departments to document the completion of various climate smart policies and projects.

Don't Forget the AREA CODE !!

NEW AREA CODE - Warning !
TOMORROW / Saturday 2-11-17 !

Central New York residents will need to dial 10 digits, even to call their neighbors.

As part of the North American Numbering Plan Administrator’s (NANPA) decision to assign a new 680 area code for Central New York, beginning Feb. 11, if you have a 315 area code, the new calling procedure will be required for all calls. On or after this date, if you don’t use the new calling procedure, your call won’t be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.
The new area code will be overlaid on the existing 315 calling area. All existing telephone users in the region will retain their entire current phone numbers, including the 315 area code. Once the new code is activated, new telephone numbers will be assigned to either the 315 or the new 680 area code. All calls to any number within the region will require 10-digit dialing regardless of the caller’s area code.
The following items will remain the same and won’t change, according to a post on the Madison County Government website.  See the full article at: ONEIDA DISPATCH

HOLY WAR the New US POLICY

Well, you might have thought voting for Trump was about raising up America..unfortunately, his "Minnie Me" Steve Bannon has other ideas...arming us for a Holy War...

USA Today> Steve Bannon, who has ascended in just months from relative obscurity to become one of President Trump’s most influential advisors, has said that Islam is “the most radical” religion in the world and the U.S. is engaged in a civilizational struggle potentially leading to “a major shooting war in the Middle East again.”

Trump installed Bannon this week as a member of his National Security Council, taking the unusual step of installing a political adviser on the powerful White House body responsible for shaping security and foreign policy.

Far more significant may be the views he brings to that table, which represent a sharp break from how previous administrations approached security issues, particularly around Islamic terrorism.

In dozens of hours of audio recordings reviewed by USA TODAY of his Breitbart News Daily radio show in 2015 and 2016, Bannon told his listeners that the United States and the Western world are engaged in a “global existential war,” and he entertained claims that a “fifth column” of Islamist sympathizers had infiltrated the U.S. government and news media. Those recordings, preserved online, offer an often unfiltered window into the thinking of Trump’s interview-averse senior adviser.

Bannon left a position as the executive chairman of the right-wing news organization Breitbart in August 2016 to become chief executive of Trump’s presidential campaign, and after the election, he was named the president’s chief strategist and senior counsel — a position equal in rank to the chief of staff.

His role in shaping Trump’s domestic and foreign policy has grown increasingly apparent in the early days of the administration. Bannon played a role in shaping a flurry of executive orders, including one that temporarily blocks immigration from seven majority-Muslim nations.

Local lawmakers applaud pension ethics reform

The fate of corrupt New York state politicians is now in the hands of the taxpayers.

A proposed bill that would strip pension benefits from officials convicted of corruption passed the New York State Legislature for the second time in two years, paving the way for New Yorkers to decide whether or not to enact the constitutional amendment.

By approving this measure (S418), the next step for this pension forfeiture legislation will be to appear on the ballot in November for voter approval to change the New York State Constitution.

Assemblyman Bill Magee, D-121, expressed his pleasure with the legislation on Tuesday, holding to his reelection promise of fighting Albany corruption.

“Nobody works as hard as people do in my district. To see their hard-earned tax dollars being squandered by corrupt politicians is an insult to all New Yorkers,” Magee said. “The pension forfeiture constitutional amendment ensures those convicted of crimes related to their elected office will no longer be able to collect a pension on the taxpayer’s dime.”

Two local state senators, Griffo & Valesky also gave their stamp of approval.

Thank you, Mr. Bill for supporting this legislation.
