NEW AREA CODE - Warning !

In a matter of weeks, Central New York residents will need to dial 10 digits, even to call their neighbors.

As part of the North American Numbering Plan Administrator’s (NANPA) decision to assign a new 680 area code for Central New York, beginning Feb. 11, if you have a 315 area code, the new calling procedure will be required for all calls. On or after this date, if you don’t use the new calling procedure, your call won’t be completed and a recording will instruct you to hang up and dial again.
The new area code will be overlaid on the existing 315 calling area. All existing telephone users in the region will retain their entire current phone numbers, including the 315 area code. Once the new code is activated, new telephone numbers will be assigned to either the 315 or the new 680 area code. All calls to any number within the region will require 10-digit dialing regardless of the caller’s area code.
The following items will remain the same and won’t change, according to a post on the Madison County Government website.  See the full article at: ONEIDA DISPATCH

Trump & Co. - NO MORE COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE PUBLIC ??

Is this going to happen to the rest of our Government -- no communications with the Public? Sounds like Brookfield Town Government !

Trump administration officials instructed employees at multiple agencies in recent days to cease communicating with the public through news releases, official social media accounts and correspondence, raising concerns that federal employees will be able to convey only information that supports the new president’s agenda.

The new limits on public communications appear to be targeting agencies that are charged with overseeing environmental and scientific policy, prompting criticism from officials within the agencies and from outside groups focused on climate change.

The Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Agriculture and Interior departments now have formal policies restricting what they should convey to the public about their work.

STATE Takes Care of Madison Co. Mistake

After a tumultuous process, Madison County appears poised to receive compensation as a host county to the Oneida Indian Nation’s Yellowbrick Road Casino.

Governor Andrew Cuomo’s 2018 Budget included $2.25 million in shared host community gaming revenue for gaming devices located in Madison County at the Oneida Indian Nation’s Yellow Brick Road Casino.

With the opening of the Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango, Madison County became the only county in the state to host a Native American resort and casino without receiving a host community benefit, or a share of the state’s gaming revenue generated within its borders.

This measure would ensure Madison County is entitled to the same host community benefit currently in place for Oneida County, allowing significant reinvestment in county infrastructure, emergency services and other programs impacted by gaming facility expansion.

Unfortunately, when the agreement was inked, the state [and COUNTY]  did not anticipate gaming facilities in Madison County......WHY NOT? Lack of VISION?

IMPORTANT: Individuals who were issued a Pistol /Revolver License before January 15, 2013,

The New York State Police today announced that individuals who hold a Pistol/Revolver License can now recertify their license as required under state law. The State Police have created an easy online process that will allow licensees to quickly complete their re-certification by visiting http://troopers.ny.gov/firearms.

There is no cost for recertification, and licensees who do not wish to use the online process can download a form from the website, and paper forms will also be available at any State Police station.

Recent changes to New York State Penal Law require license holders to recertify every five years. Individuals who were issued a Pistol /Revolver License before January 15, 2013, must recertify by Jan. 31, 2018.  The deadline to recertify for those issued a license on or after Jan. 15, 2013, is five years from the date the license was issued.

Failure to recertify will serve as a basis for revocation of the license.

As part of the recertification process, licensees must affirm that they are not prohibited from possessing firearms under state and federal law, and must also confirm certain personal information, as well as provide details about the pistols and/or revolvers they own.

Pistol/Revolver License holders who live in New York City, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk counties are not required to recertify through this process. Each of these municipalities already requires license holders to renew or recertify their license on a periodic basis.

New REPUBLICAN CONGRESS - FILLING UP THE SWAMP & COVERING FELLOW CRIMINALS

UPDATE:  Due to the massive, negative response, this group who oppose the ETHICS committee had to back down!  While House Republican leaders opposed the measure ...the right wing tea-baggers are starting their crap again...we can't take 4 more years like the last four with those stubborn idiots who are once again working for their self-interest.  This is the CONGRESS OF DESTRUCTION and we will live in their Rubble.

This is NOT A GOOD START to our new year of REPUBLICAN CONGRESS....this is the VERY FIRST THING this new Congress did ...they PROTECT THEIR OWN....THEY ARE RE-FILLING THE "SWAMP":

NOTHING HAS CHANGED....JUST GETTING WORSE!

WASHINGTON — House Republicans, overriding their top leaders, voted on Monday to significantly curtail the power of an independent ethics office set up in 2008 in the aftermath of corruption scandals that sent three members of Congress to jail.

The move to effectively kill the Office of Congressional Ethics was not made public until late Monday, when Representative Robert W. Goodlatte, Republican of Virginia and chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, announced that the House Republican Conference had approved the change. There was no advance notice or debate on the measure.

The surprising vote came on the eve of the start of a new session of Congress, where emboldened Republicans are ready to push an ambitious agenda on everything from health care to infrastructure, issues that will be the subject of intense lobbying from corporate interests. The House Republicans’ move would take away both power and independence from an investigative body, and give lawmakers more control over internal inquiries.

Propane and snow helped ignite Cedarville Firehouse Fire

For those of you with PROPANE GAS TANKS....see below.

SEE VIDEO AT:  http://www.wktv.com/story/34166892/propane-and-snow-helped-ignite-cedarville-firehouse-fire

Fire crews in Cedarville responded to a fire at their own firehouse just before 9:00 on Sunday night.
Cedarville's Fire Chief Fred Sinclair said "one of our members was here and just happened to be watching tv and witnessed a small explosion out in the kitchen area.  Smoke and flames were visible outside of the building

"We immediately got all our equipment out of the building and proceeded to start firefighting operations."

Crews from Mohawk, West Winfield and all over came to assist the fire department and the help didn’t go unnoticed.

"It’s overwhelming but it’s not surprising we had guys down here from Poland and Barneveld."

Fire Chief Fred Sinclair let us know that much of the fire was contained to the back of the building and that weather may have played a role in this fire.  He said they are pretty sure propane and snow helped to cause this fire.

"We have a metal roof and all our regulators are on the side of the building and a snow load came off the roof leaving a big pile right up against the building.  Propane being heavier than air had no place to go because the regulators were covered."  From there it worked its way down the building and they believe it ignited from one of the pilot lights in the stove.  As far as propane goes this is a learning experience for the fire department.

"Keep the snow cleared away from your equipment.  Those regulators need free air to work properly and this one was covered up with snow and that’s why propane entered the building."

For now insurance adjusters will make an analysis on what needs to be done to restore and clean up the building.  The Cedarville Fire department is in full operation and this is just another day.
