TURTLE WARNING! Watch out for....

DEC advises motorists to be alert for turtles crossing the road

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) wants to remind the public that the state’s native turtles are on the move in May and June seeking sandy areas or loose soil to lay their eggs. Drivers that see a turtle on the road should use caution and should not swerve suddenly or leave their lane of travel, but take care to avoid hitting turtles while driving.

The DEC says that in New York, thousands of turtles are killed each year when they are struck by vehicles as the turtles migrate to their nesting areas. New York’s 11 native species of land turtles are in decline, and turtles can take more than 10 years to reach breeding age. The reptiles lay just one small clutch of eggs each year, which means the loss of a breeding female can have a significant effect on the local turtle population.

According to the DEC, this time of year, it is especially important to be on the lookout for turtles and to drive cautiously, particularly on roads near rivers and marshy areas. If a turtle is spotted on the road or near the shoulder, drivers should safely stop their vehicle and consider moving the turtle to the side of the road in the direction the reptile is facing.

The DEC says picking the turtle up by its tail may frighten or injure the reptile. Most turtles can be picked up by the side of their shells.

According to the DEC, it’s important to use extreme caution when moving snapping turtles; either pick the turtle up at the rear of the shell near the tail using two hands, or slide a car mat under the turtle to drag the turtle across the road. Do not take the turtle into personal possession. All native turtles are protected by law and cannot be collected without a permit.

WHITE HOUSE - Classified Drama SUMMARY

Have to admit, was a bit lost over the seriousness of the Classified information released by President Trump to the Russians in a recent meeting.  Here is an excerpt from the Washington Post, who originally broke the story....thought this was a good summary of the issue....see link for rest of article.

Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister and ambassador
Washington Post / By Greg Miller and Greg Jaffe May 15 at 7:45 PM

President Trump revealed highly classified information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in a White House meeting last week, according to current and former U.S. officials, who said Trump’s disclosures jeopardized a critical source of intelligence on the Islamic State.

The information the president relayed had been provided by a U.S. partner through an intelligence-sharing arrangement considered so sensitive that details have been withheld from allies and tightly restricted even within the U.S. government, officials said.

The partner had not given the United States permission to share the material with Russia, and officials said Trump’s decision to do so endangers cooperation from an ally that has access to the inner workings of the Islamic State. After Trump’s meeting, senior White House officials took steps to contain the damage, placing calls to the CIA and the National Security Agency.

“This is code-word information,” said a U.S. official familiar with the matter, using terminology that refers to one of the highest classification levels used by American spy agencies. Trump “revealed more information to the Russian ambassador than we have shared with our own allies.”

SWAMPSVILLE - SALKA?? IDA Director and Sweetheart Deal ? Salka?

SWAMPSVILLE --  MADISON COUNTY TAXPAYERS are paying a premium to the MADISON COUNTY IDA Director Kip HICKS .... to lease  a PORTION (1/4) of his FAMILY's building as a "TEMPORARY" court house space...to the tune of $1.3 Million (they only paid $425,000 for the ENTIRE BUILDING!)  ...what a deal......"how sweet it is!"  He gets to oversee all the renovations and the TAXPAYERS pick up any cost over runs.

DID THE COUNTY DISCLOSE THAT KENWOOD LLC WAS IN FACT THE HICKS FAMILY????? ...NO CONFLICT OF INTEREST?  Who are they kidding?

Maybe Supervisor Salka who sits on the IDA Board can give us some information on this great deal the County Supervisors gave the IDA Director and his family!!! ..check out the full article at the SYRACUSE POST STANDARD that just broke this morning!

Even before Hicks bought the building, he got help from Oneida city officials. He persuaded the Board of Assessment Review to slash the property assessment more than 85 percent, from $3.4 million to $425,000.

Kipp Hicks has been executive director of Madison County's industrial development agency since 2007. Now he is also the county's landlord......

Hicks and his family bought the property for only $425,000 after getting help from Oneida City officals to reduce the $3.4 million assessment to only $425,000!

Madison County taxpayers will pay Hicks roughly $500,000 over 19 months to lease one floor of a four-story building in Oneida that Hicks and his family bought two years ago for $400,000.

The no-bid lease was unanimously approved by the board of supervisors last month.

All told, taxpayers will spend about $1.3 million to lease the first floor of the building from September through March 2019. If the courthouse project takes longer, the lease can be extended month to month. [They paid $425,000 for the ENTIRE BUILDING!]

In addition to rent, Madison County will pay for an estimated $800,000 in renovations to outfit the Oneida Ltd. building with a courtroom, judges' chambers, hearing rooms and other court-related facilities.

Hicks will oversee the work, but must get authorization from the county before he proceeds. Any cost overruns would be paid by county taxpayers.

Madison County IDA director doubles as developer, and county is his major tenant
