Two Madison County schools remain in financial trouble despite small gains in previous years.

According to state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s latest report on school finances, both Brookfield and DeRuyter school districts are “susceptible to fiscal distress.” Brookfield Central School District has a fiscal score of 31.7, and DeRuyter Central School District has a score of 30.

Both scores represent improvement for the two Madison County school districts as DeRuyter received a 45 and Brookfield a 38.3 for the 2014-15 report according to the Comptroller’s Office.

Going back even further, Brookfield was rated in the “moderate fiscal stress” category in 2012-13 and 2013-14.
