Magee: Legislation to lower insurance costs for agritourism businesses becomes law

Assemblyman Bill Magee (D-Nelson) announced that legislation he sponsored limiting the cost of liability insurance for agricultural tourism businesses has been signed into law (Ch. 338 of 2017). The new law protects farms that diversify their income with pumpkin patches, apple orchards, hay rides, Christmas trees and other agritourism opportunities.

“New York State is ripe with agritourism,” Magee said. “The new law will create a more business-friendly environment for the small farm that wants to welcome families to pick pumpkins or apples, but has been restricted by high-priced insurance premiums.”

The law eases the financial burden on agritourism businesses by setting limits on liability risk for owners who take a reasonable level of care in preventing risks that can be associated with farmland, such as livestock, uneven ground and machinery. New York joins 26 other states with laws in place to limit liability exposure for agritourism.

FLICK'S TAVERN v BOARD WITH NO BALLS

See coverage of the October meeting is in this week's Waterville Times.  Very sad to see that the Flick's Tavern fiasco continues... despite surveys and deeds, Kabana says he owns the  Town's well and has claimed the land in between is his according to a 1906 deed.  He continues to refuse to move his personal effects and vehicles.

This issue has dragged on for years....yes YEARS...The Board has no idea what to do other than spending tax dollars to have the Town Attorney, Tina Wayland-Smith, write feckless letters $$...these letters never say they are going to charge Kabana for the cost of removing the his personal items, nor does it give him a deadline???....what the hell is the Sheriff's office for??...arrest  him for trespass???

No....there is "SOMETHING ELSE" going on here ....Frank must have something over the Board that they won't take action?!  Sure looks like it...wonder what Frank knows that has made cowards out of the Town Board.

Supervisor Salka's suggestion: Build a BARRIER.... or better yet, let's build a whole new TOWN HALL!  Yes, that's on his agenda with the "secret" committee to explore the idea. Hand picked and unnamed members.... Frankly, this is a fine example of why things don't work in this TOWN! NO BALLS to do the right thing! And we vote these people in again?????

FOOD For THOUGHT...

“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.” — H. L. Mencken

Newspaperman H.L. Mencken wrote these words that were published by the Baltimore Evening Sun on 26 July 1920.  The words were written 97 years ago, coming true in 2017.

FOOTNOTE:  Henry Louis Mencken (September 12, 1880 – January 29, 1956) was an American journalist, satirist, cultural critic and scholar of American English.[1] Known as the "Sage of Baltimore", he is regarded as one of the most influential American writers and prose stylists of the first half of the twentieth century. He commented widely on the social scene, literature, music, prominent politicians and contemporary movements.  (Thanks, Wikipedia)

When will we stand UP AGAINST ASSAULT weapons....

The new constitution ....the RIGHT to  bear AUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPONS to wipe out hundreds.  Thanks NRA.  ONE man's "right" vs. HUNDREDS dead, injured and emotionally traumatized.  Imagine your CHILD or LOVED ONE in that concert!...It is NOT GOING TO STOP...unless YOU make it STOP.  Stand up against ASSAULT WEAPONS.
